The first vampire
was not, as some imagine, Cain, the son of Adam and Eve. This confusion
exists because of God's words to Cain, "The voice of thy brother's blood
crieth out to me from the ground," and the fact that God marked Cain as
special. However, the first vampire actually existed several centuries
later. This man was named Caine (just a slight difference in spelling,
which adds to the confusion), and he, being a sorcerer already in league
with Lucifer, sold his soul to his dark god in exchange for what he believed
to be immortality. Instead he was damned with a hellish existence, forced
to suck the blood from living humans until he was delivered from this punishment
by one with a stake. Thus Satan tricked him and lied to him, and thus does
the evil one always to his servants.
It is uncertain
what happened to Caine, as he passed out of all recorded history slightly
prior to Incarnation of Christ. Some say that he walks the earth yet, others
that he was the first to fall victim to the stake. The only thing that
is certain about that period in vampiric history is that the second when
Christ died, so did every known vampire (again, it is uncertain what happened
to Caine, as he was already an unknown).
How then, one
might ask, are there vampires yet today? The answer is quite simple, though
it took me a very long time to figure out, as the solution was not given
in any vampiric log (understandably, as the slain vampires were in no position
to write, and the living ones had no ideas on or interest in the subject).
To help the reader to understand the answer to this dilemma, I must give
a little more information about the nature of vampires.
A vampire is
a human who, at the moment of death, was entered into by a specially prepared
demon, personally prepared by Satan himself. This demon works on the body,
manipulating it only slightly, while using for the main its own unholy
power to keep the body unnaturally alive. The possessed will keep control
of his body at most times, but occasionally the demon will take over long
enough to accomplish some specially appointed task. This type of possession
can only be successful if the victim has just been drained of all blood
by a vampire's bite, and if the victim is not a Christian (the only exception
in all history was Caine). Also, the possession must take place at the
exact moment of death, as the demon cannot resurrect the dead, but can
keep the dying unnaturally alive. Finally, the body will have all physical
signs of death for six days before recuperation will take place. (There
are two reasons for this: 1. God's Son spent only half as long in the grave
, and 2. Six is the number of man, an evil number.)
Because of the
strain of keeping a human body alive and undecaying with only its own supernatural
powers to rely own, vampiric demons display an extraordinary aversion to
crosses and indeed all holy symbols. However, they are unaffected by garlic
and will ignore sunflower seeds lying on the floor. Also, while there is
some truth to the legend, vampires DO cast a reflection. However, the reflection
is of what their bodies should look like. Thus, vampires who have been
undead for several months will reflect as a rotting corpse, vampires who
have been undead for many years will reflect as a crumbling skeleton, and
vampires who have existed for centuries will have no reflection at all.
Back to the history.
How would vampires still exist after the Crucifixion? Besides the rather
obvious conclusion that Caine did not in fact die, we must remember that
fresh victims remain comatose for SIX days. The result was that any vampires
whose incubation period lasted until after Jesus' glorious Resurrection
were left unharmed, though much less powerful (incidentally, vampires who
should have risen while Jesus was dead and on the day of His Resurrection
were also destroyed). It is interesting to note that, once again, God solves
several important problems with a single answer; at that time the vampire
population was nearly one quarter of the population of humans! With Jesus'
power, the vampire population was greatly reduced, and since that time
they have received much less power than previously.
